A Social Resolution for the New Year!
From Shary Gard, New Social Chairperson

Hi Neighbors,

My husband, Ken Chambers and I moved to SummerBrooke last January and are interested in getting to know our neighbors through neighborhood social activities.  The neighbors we’ve talked to seem to be interested too!  Let us know if you are interested in any of these ideas or let us know of other ideas you might have:

Neighborhood Social Committee- Plan and coordinate future neighborhood activities.

February Progressive Dinner- A winter favorite with little expense which allows everyone’s involvement.  The concept is simple: On a February Saturday or Sunday night, up to twelve neighbors eat and drink their way from appetizer, main course to dessert at three different neighbors’ homes.  Cooks can choose their own recipe(s) and/or choose from the ones provided.  Expenses will be divided among members of the group.

Monthly Potluck/Poker Club- Bring a covered dish and play “dealer’s choice” poker.

Monthly Empty Nesters’ Dine Out Night- Dine with neighbors at nearby restaurants.

Please email your name and phone number to me if interested in participating in any of these AND if you’re interested in the upcoming February Progressive Dinner, see the attached details and return the form.

While many residents enjoy getting to and from the golf course on their own golf cart, please remember that general travel on our neighborhood roads in a golf cart is in violation of Florida Statute. In addition, a golf cart may not be operated by anyone under the age of 14. TPD officers have stopped carts within SummerBrooke to issue warnings to drivers/passengers who are not traveling to/from the course, but such a violation is also considered a noncriminal traffic infraction and can result in a ticket/fine. Residents have also expressed concerns to the board about the safety of younger children seen operating golf carts. Please remind your golf cart drivers of these rules.

Officer Andy Berensten with the TPD Community Relations Unit would like to remind residents about TPD’s Extra Patrol/House/Business Check service. Simply follow the link below and complete the form to request a special check on your property during a vacation or any period of time you may be away. For more information about this service, please contact the Public Information Office at (850) 891-4200.

There are numerous homes in the neighborhood that are vacant. It is the mortgage holder’s responsibility to maintain the lawn even if the house is empty, however, we are getting an increasing number of complaints that this is not happening. If you know of a yard that is not being mowed, please contact the Summerbrooke POA office with the address. A letter must then be sent to the mortgage holder giving them 10 days to comply before we can have the lawn cut ourselves.

Board Activities

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 6:00 p.m. at the clubhouse.

Park Activities

Several improvements have been made to the park to improve safety, and more are in the works. Please do your part to help us maintain the park by cleaning up and obeying all posted rules. Meanwhile, we are looking for volunteers to help with regular park clean-up. Contact us at MySummerBrooke @ EmbarqMail.com if you would like to help.

Recycling

ALL PLASTIC CONTAINERS ARE NOW RECYCLABLE

Empty yogurt and fruit cups, margarine and whipped cream tubs, plastic lids...

You can recycle all of these items and much more now thanks to an initiative from Sustainable Tallahassee and made possible by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County. These containers are in addition to the milk jugs, beverage bottles and other plastic materials that you’ve always been able to recycle in our area.

Virtually all plastic containers that hold less than 3 gallons will be accepted through the City and County recycling collection programs. Excluded are plastic bags, Styrofoam and containers that once held automotive fluids, pesticides or other hazardous substances.

If space becomes a problem in your Smart Cart, you can crush items to allow more room. Also, rinse out containers before placing them in the bin, especially during the hot summer months. This will help minimize any odor or insect problems stemming from your garbage containers and recycling bins. (courtesy of talgov.com)
